The course structure
Week 1: (9.30-12.30)
Registration and introductions: What is wine; how grapes grow; where grapes grow; making wine; types of wine; principal grape varieties; introduction to wine tasting and the WSET Level 1 Systematic Approach to Tasting Wine® (SAT)
Week 2: (10-12.30)
Storage and service of wine; pairing wine and food session. The food pairing activity is eye-opening and fun, helping you understand how food interacts with wines. During it, you’ll have more practice tasting wine using the SAT®
Week 3: (10-12.30 – varies based on examination times)
Review course content; mock exam questions; then the WSET Level 1 Award in Wines examination itself.
The study fee of £160 includes:
– Your WSET Level 1 Award in Wines workbook
– A guided tasting of nine wines
– Food samples in Week 2
– The examination fee

Our WSET-approved Liverpool venue for the January 22 course is Lu Ban Restaurant
The Level 1 Award in Wines examination consists of 30 multiple-choice questions to be completed in 45 minutes.
To pass, you must gain a mark of 70% or above.
The WSET receives the exam papers for marking and will notify OFITG of the results.
Successful students will receive a WSET certificate and also a lapel pin. This qualification is regulated by Ofqual.
What do you need?
The WSET Level 1 Award in Wines is designed for people who don’t know anything about wine.
It’s a beginner level introduction to wine suitable for those starting a wine career or pursuing an interest in wine.
If you’re enthusiastic, then that’s all we could ask for!
The classes are delivered in English.
You don’t need to prepare anything in advance.
To take part in the wine-tasting element you must be 18 or over.
