WSET Level 1 Award in Wines in Liverpool: Study via a full day course

One day course, 9.15am-5.30pm
Study for the WSET Level 1 Award in Wines in Liverpool in just one day under the guidance of One Foot in the Grapes.
Our morning will begin with understanding how wine is made and we’ll look at the styles and characteristics of eight grape varieties.
Then you’ll be introduced to tasting wine the WSET way, with a selection of at least six wines provided by One Foot in the Grapes.
We’ll then compare and contrast those wines with food samples, illustrating how food can influence the characteristics of wine.
In the last session you’ll sit a 45 minute exam of 30 multiple-choice questions. To pass the Level 1 Award in Wines you need to achieve 70% or more.
There will be a mock test beforehand to boost your confidence.
At the end of the day you will:
- Understand the key stages in grape growing and winemaking
- Know the types, characteristics and styles of wines made from the principal grape varieties and other examples of wines.
- Know the key principles and practices involved in the storage and service of wine.
How much does it cost?
Studying the WSET Level 1 Award in Wines course in one day with One Foot in the Grapes is £160. That includes study guides, wine and food samples, and the examination fee on the day.

How long does it take?
The day will begin with registration and we’ll go through the course modules which includes practical sessions.
There will be a break for lunch.
The exam will take place in the final session of the day.
During the day we’ll taste at least six wines to help you understand the benchmark expressions of principal grape varieties and style.
You’ll learn to taste and describe the wines using the WSET Level 1 Systematic Approach to Tasting Wine® (SAT).
You must be over 18 to taste wine. The course can be studied, and the qualification gained, by theory alone.
How do you pass?
In the last session of the day you would sit a 45 minute exam of 30 multiple-choice questions.
You will receive the questions, and multiple choice options for the answers which you mark on the answer sheet.
The exam papers are posted to the WSET team and One Foot in the Grapes will let you know if you have been succesful.
If you pass, you’ll receive a WSET certificate and also a lapel pin.
This qualification is regulated by Ofqual.
Do you need any qualifications?
You don’t need to know anything about wine to take Level 1 Award in Wines course.
Before the course
There is no need to prepare anything before starting your WSET Level 1 Award in Wines course.
However you can read the qualification specification which will help you understand what to expect.
