You’ll study for the WSET Level 1 Award in Spirits in Liverpool via One Foot in the Grapes under the guidance of WSET-approved educator Sam Cunliffe.

- How to serve spirits
- Factors affecting the flavour of spirits
- How to describe spirits using the WSET Level 1 Systematic Approach to Tasting Spirits® (SAT)
Wednesday May 25 2022 – City Wine Bar, Old Hall Street, Liverpool (Registration closes Monday May 9)
How long does it take?
The day will begin with registration and we’ll go through the course modules which includes practical sessions.
There will be a break for lunch.
The exam will take place in the final session of the day.
How much does it cost?
Studying the WSET Level 1 Award in Spirits course in one day with One Foot in the Grapes is £170.
It covers the study guide, spirits samples and the examination fee on the day.
How to describe spirits using the WSET Level 1 Systematic Approach to Tasting Spirits® (SAT).
The recommended spirits for this Level 1 course are:
- A neutral, big brand vodka
- Cognac VS and VSOP or VSOP and XO
- A Bourbon
- A peated Single Malt Scotch
- An unpeated Single Malt Scotch
- Two molasses-based rums
- A 100% Agave Blanco Tequila
- London Dry Gin
- A vermouth
You must be over 18 to taste spirits. However, the course can be studied, and the qualification gained, by theory alone.
How do you pass?
You sit a 45 minute closed-book exam of 30 multiple-choice questions. To pass, you need to achieve 70% or more.
Ofqual regulates this qualification.
