This option allows you to study the WSET Level 1 Award in Wines in just one day. It will be held in a Liverpool city centre venue with Jane Clare from One Foot in the Grapes leading the course.  You’ll taste a minimum of six samples of wine to explore different wine styles. You’ll take the exam in the final hour of the day. A lunch break is factored in to the timings. Because of Covid, no bookings are being taken at this time. But you can register interest here.

WSET Level 1 Award in Wines –  Full day course

This option allows you to study for the WSET Level 1 Award in Wines in just one day under the guidance of One Foot in the Grapes. If you’re a wine enthusiast, or starting out in the hospitality industry, this course gives you the basics for your wine journey. At the end of the course you will:

  • Understand the key stages in grape growing and winemaking
  • Know the types, characteristics and styles of wines made from the principal grape varieties and other examples of wines.
  • Know the key principles and practices involved in the storage and service of wine.

How much does it cost?

Studying the WSET Level 1 Award in Wines course in one day with One Foot in the Grapes is £140.

When will the course start?

One Foot in the Grapes has a set of dates* (see below) which you can choose and select in the shopping basket.  The courses will take place at Ropes and Twines in Liverpool city centre. We’re also able to offer bespoke dates with group courses for trade and hospitality businesses.

Covid 19 restrictions

How long does it take?

This qualification has a minimum requirement of six hours’ study time. The day will begin with registration and we’ll go through the course modules which include tasting wine and practical sessions.There will be a break for lunch. The exam will take place in the final session of the day.

Tasting wine

During the day we’ll taste at least six wines to help you understand the benchmark expressions of principal grape varieties and style. You’ll learn to taste and describe the wines using the WSET Level 1 Systematic Approach to Tasting Wine® (SAT).

How do you pass?

In the last session of the day you would sit a 45 minute closed-book exam of 30 multiple-choice questions. To pass the Level 1 Award in Wines you need to achieve 70% or more. The exam papers are posted to the WSET team and One Foot in the Grapes will let you know if you have been succesful.  If you pass, you’ll receive a WSET certificate and also a lapel pin.
This qualification is regulated by Ofqual.

Do you need any qualifications?

You don’t need to know anything about wine to take Level 1 Award in Wines course. You must be 18 to take part in the winetasting; but if you are underage that does not stop you taking part in the theory sessions and sitting the examination. Our classes are delivered in English.

Before the course

There is no need to prepare anything before starting your WSET Level 1 Award in Wines course. However you can read the qualification specification which will help you understand what to expect.
