WSET Level 2 Award in Spirits – online self-study
How will it work?
You’ll follow six online modules over five weeks. You work at a pace and a time to suit you.
The six modules:
- Introducing spirits
- Fruit and sugar cane spirits
- Whisk(e)y, Tequila and Mezcal
- Vodka; flavoured spirits;liqueurs and aromatised wines
- Bar essentials and cocktails
- Revision and resources
You can book this course through One Foot in the Grapes (OFITG) to study from anywhere in the UK.

You will self-study for the WSET Level 2 Award in Spirits in your own time via the online WSET portal.
But what does self-study mean?
You’ll access the WSET global classroom where you will follow the six modules in your own time, over five weeks.
You’ll have the support of an online educator, plus additional guidance from OFITG.
The course covers topics from spirits ingredients and production methods, to how to taste spirits, to different types of spirits.
There are interactive quizzes and learning resources to make your learning more enjoyable.

There are regular dates for the WSET Level 2 Award in Spirits self-study 5-week courses via the WSET global portal.

July 11 – August 14
One Foot in the Grapes would be your main contact, arranging exams and your bookings, plus additional support.
How long does it take?
This qualification carries a recommendation of six hours study per week to cover the online activities and to read the relevant chapters in the textbook. In all, 30 hours over five weeks.
How much does it cost?
The online version of the WSET Level 2 Award in Spirits course, with an online exam, is £320.
If a paper exam is chosen (Liverpool only) the fee is £298.
You source your own spirits (see below).
OFITG is your point of contact for booking exams and any admin and extra support on the course.
You’ll learn to taste spirits using WSET’s Systematic Approach to Tasting®
Students can post their tasting notes in the Online Classroom for review by the educator.
There are tasting exercises throughout the course to guide you.
For these, you will need to purchase samples of the following spirits:
- Cognac or Armagnac
- Bourbon or Tennessee Whiskey
- Single Malt Scotch Whisky
- White or golden rum
- Aged high-quality dark rum
- Tequila (preferably 100% agave) blanco or reposado
- Neutral, big-brand vodka
- Characterful vodka
- London Dry Gin
- Aniseed-flavoured spirit and/or bitter
As an option this samples provider has the approval of the WSET.
How do you pass?
You would sit a 60-minute closed-book exam of 45 multiple-choice questions.
The exam date for each self-study online course is confirmed individually with a student and One Foot in the Grapes.
Ofqual regulates this qualification.
