Fizz & Ships: Wine tasting and maritime stories
Join us at beautiful venue The Grand in Southport for our Fizz & Ships event!
On August 21, 2026, we – that’s me, Jane Clare, of One Foot in the Grapes, and Peter Elson, of Elson Shipping Lines – will be hosting a maritime-themed wine tasting.
Award-winning maritime expert Peter will take us around the world via various liner routes sharing anecdotes, including of Cunard and the White Star Line and the Titanic.
And we will hear about the people from Sefton and Merseyside who have played prominent roles in historic events.
As we come into port in different countries (without leaving your lovely table at The Grand) I will introduce a wine from each destination.
You’ll have six wines including fizz!

Charity events
A wine tasting makes for a fun choice as a fund-raising event. Jane has done whacky things for charity, such as a comedy stand-up night, walking over hot coals and parachuting out of a plane. Sadly, the sponsored “losing weight” hasn’t had any long-term effects.
Jane has run wine events for animal rescue charities, mental health fund-raising, church appeals and school PTAs.
One Foot in the Grapes offers reduced rates for registered charities.
