Another day, another piece of advice about why you should drink red wine … or why you shouldn’t drink it.
News from the International Journal of Obesity told us yesterday that the chemical resveratrol in grapes, berries and red wine can turn excess flab into calorie-burning “brown” fat.
Yay!!
But, nay!!
The NHS has been quick to step in. “Sorry to be party poopers” says NHS Choices, but that is “nonsense”.
The Independent was one of a few papers to tell us about the research … and temptingly headlined its online piece …
Want to lose weight? Drink red wine..
Well, I do (want to lose weight ) and I do (drink red wine)
But huff’n’stuff … NHS Choices was quick to respond.
” ..drinking ‘plenty of red wine’ will not lead you to lose weight – if anything the opposite will occur. A standard 750cl bottle of red wine contains around 570 calories, which is more than is found in two McDonald’s hamburgers.”
So there you go.

I still like red wine though.
