There’s something wonderful about discovering a new wine style; and I’ve been doing just that with the white wines of DO Rueda.
It all began around the time of Lockdown.
While some people discovered sour dough, or watched Normal People (to be fair, I did that bit too) I was getting my wine event *fix* via that new-fangled conversation opportunity called Zoom.
Then the white wines of DO Rueda came into my life.
It began with hosting an online tasting, with my wine pal Chris Dace, when we were all pretty much restricted as to who we could see and when. (Unless you worked at Downing Street, obviously.)
People absolutely loved it.
“We’ve been converted tonight” said one of the guests, of these wines from the north of Spain.
DO Rueda is Spain’s leading white wine region
In December 2022 it was a thrill to be announced as one of the first UK Rueda Wine Ambassadors together with the fabulous Owen Morgan, owner of the restaurant business Group 44.
We visited the region, to meet wine producers, and taste these lovely white wines in the place of their birth.
This helped us in our roles to build awareness around DO Rueda, Spain’s leading white wine region.
There’s so much to share:
As an ambassador, I’ve helped to judge Rueda wines; I’ve shared them at tastings; I’ve posted about them on social media; I’ve talked about their vibrancy to people in the hospitality trade. My stories will be linked below, on this page.
