There are certain technical requirements (check here) and before choosing an online exam we recommend you contact us and we’ll explain the options.
Do you need any qualifications?
There are no entry requirements. You must be 18 to take part in the winetasting; but if you are underage that does not stop you taking part in the theory sessions and sitting the examination. Our classes are delivered in English.
How will it work?
You’ll follow seven online modules. There will be guided support available during this time from One Foot in the Grapes. There will be an order to the modules, but you can complete them at your own pace. The study should take about six hours in total to complete, plus any revision time. You work at a pace and a time to suit you. One Foot in the Grapes will invite you to occasional informal, informative, video calls but they are not compulsory.
The seven modules:
- What is wine and how is it made?
- Types and styles of wine
- Introduction to tasting
- Grape varieties and wines
- Storage and service of wines
- Pairing food and wines
You’ll learn to taste and describe wine using the WSET Level 1 Systematic Approach to Tasting Wine® (SAT). To fully enjoy and understand the modules, One Foot in the Grapes advises that you should try at least six wines. You will buy these for the online course and we can offer recommendations to source from retailers. As an option, you can also buy wine sample boxes, each box containing six 2oml bottles of wine. This samples provider has the approval of the WSET.
There is no need to prepare anything before starting your WSET Level 1 Award in Wines course. However you can read the qualification specification which will help you understand what to expect.
