WSET Level 2 Award in Wines – Online self-study
You can book this WSET L2 wines online self-study course (at least 10 days before course start date) through One Foot in the Grapes (OFITG) from anywhere in the UK.

You will have the support of an online educator and OFITG.
If you’re a wine enthusiast, or in the hospitality industry, this course gives you a good level of knowledge for your wine journey.
At the end of the course you will be able to:
- Describe and compare the styles of wines produced from internationally and regionally important grape varieties
- Interpret wine labels from the main wine producing regions of the world
- Give basic guidance on appropriate selection and service
- Understand the principles of wine tasting and evaluation

How will it work?
You’ll follow six online modules in the WSET global classroom. There will be an order to the modules and you can complete them at your own pace. The study should take about six hours a week for five weeks to complete, plus any revision time.
OFITG will send you a study pack in advance of the course. You will need to source wine samples.
The six modules:
- Wine and the consumer
- Factors affecting quality and style
- Still red wine varieties
- Still white wine varieties
- Sparkling wine and fortified
- Revision and feedback questionnaire
When will the course start?
There are very regular start dates within the WSET global portal, with dates up to July 2022.
One Foot in the Grapes would be your main contact, arranging exams and your bookings, plus additional support.
How long does it take?
This qualification has a minimum requirement of 28 hours’ study time across five weeks. The classes are in English.
The study time is based around 17 hours’ guided study online and 11 hours of your own private study and revision.
How much does it cost?
The online version of the WSET Level 2 Award in Wines course, with an online exam, is £320. If a paper exam is chosen (Liverpool only) the fee is £298.
You would have to source your own wines and OFITG will give guidance.
Do you need any qualifications?
There are no entry requirements. You must be 18 or over to take part in the wine tasting. Our classes are delivered in English.
You don’t need the WSET Level 1 Award in Wines to study this course.
How do you pass?
You would sit an hour’s closed-book exam of 50 multiple-choice questions. To pass, you need to achieve 55% or more.
The exam for the online self-study course is online (£320) but paper exams are available (in Liverpool only – £298).
The exam date is confirmed individually with a student and One Foot in the Grapes.
Ofqual regulate this qualification.

Tasting wine
You’ll learn to taste and describe wine using the WSET Level 2 Systematic Approach to Tasting Wine®(SAT).
One Foot in the Grapes advises that you should try at least 20 wines in the online course.
You will buy these for the online course and we can offer recommendations to source from retailers.
As an option this samples provider has the approval of the WSET.
